 The
Bally Station of
Eastern Berks Fire
operates six vehicles:
1995 HME Pumper;
2002 Four Guys Tanker/Pumper;
2007 Freightliner/Saulsbury Rescue Truck;
2011Freighliner/Four Guys Tanker/Pumper;
1973 Jeep Brush Truck; and
a 1998 Dodge
Utility Van.
Our
Brush Truck was refurbished during the winter of
2008-2009 to prepare it for the brush fire season this
spring. Body was strengthened, repaired and repainted, a new
electric hose reel added, new emergency warning systems
installed and new top, sides, and doors added. New hose and
nozzle were placed on this old
but very reliable workhorse.
Our
Rescue Truck was refurbished and returned to service in
2007. We mounted the original 1986 truck body onto a new
Freightliner cab and chassis, while adding light towers, new
hydraulic lines and restored interior. Among its first responses
were two motor vehicle accidents with double fatalities
along Route 100; rescues with extensive extrication; a
response to to Grandview Speedway for a driver trapped in a
race car, a request to serve as RIT (Rapid Intervention
Team) during a fatal fire in Boyertown; as well as many
others. For less than $200,000, we have a new truck - half
the price of a completely new one! At the end of 2010, all
new hydraulic rescue equipment was added thanks to a federal
grant.
 We
recently received a federal grant of $190,000 to assist in
replacement of the 33 year old 1977 Chevy Tanker. This
new tanker is designed for smaller access points and
brush fires, will carry 2000 gallons of water and supplements
our 2002 tanker. The new tanker was picked up in May, 2011
and is now in service.
