Fire Prevention in Schools

Each Fall members of Eastern Berks Fire spend hours doing fire prevention demonstrations and presentations in local schools and to area youths. Students at Washington Elementary, Saint Francis Academy, and Bally Mennonite Preschool are just some of the children who receive these services by our volunteers taking time off from work and families.

GFC Crew (partial) 2009Eastern Berks Fire Department provides fire and rescue coverage for the Boroughs of Bally and Bechtelsville, and Washington, District, and Pike Townships and portions of Upper Hanover and Douglass (Montg.) Townships.  We also respond for a variety of medical assists when requested by Bally Community Ambulance.

Federal Grants
The Bally Station of Eastern Berks Fire has received TWO federal grants as part of the Assistant to Firefighter Grant program offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

One grant of $92,000 updated Hurst Rescue equipment, with an additional $129,000 to update firefighter's PPE - Personal Protective Equipment such as coats, helmets, bunker pants, boots, etc. Within a week of being placed into service, the new rescue air bags were put to use freeing a pedestrian trapped under a truck.

The other provided $190,000 in major financial assistance to replace the 33 year old 1977 Chevy Tanker in the Bally Station with a new truck which carries a 2000 gallon  tank. This new tanker is designed for smaller access points and brush fires, and is a supplement to 2002 Four Guys 3000 gallon tanker previously in service. The new tanker was delivered in Spring 2011 and has already proved to be a work-horse.

The Next Alarm Might Be Yours!

Each year Eastern Berks Fire stations respond to over 200 alarms in this community.

We are your fire and rescue company. We respond to fires in homes, sheds, cars, and barns. We extricate people trapped in the wreckage of their cars and trucks. We extinguish brush fires racing across dry woods. We render emergency medical care until an ambulance can get to the scene of a heart attack or choking  We pump basements flooded by tropic storms. We practice, train and learn so that when you need us, we will be there with the right skills and equipment to help you.

For a complete listing of our calls last year click on the link below or click on the "recent calls" above link to see and read about some of the alarms we have answered.

Over the past two years, Eastern Berks has purchased a new light attack vehicle, new rescue tools, a new tanker and a new attack truck. We've purchased all new fire protective gear and installed an exhaust ventilation system in the Bally Station. Thanks to grants from the federal government, we have been able to afford improvements otherwise we would not have been able to afford. Daily operating costs are still dependant upon your generosity.

Your financial contribution is vital to our ability to continue to meet the needs of your community. Your neighbors and just maybe yourself! Please be generous with your tax-deductible support. You may mail your contribution to: Eastern Berks Fire Department PO Box 43 Barto Pa 19504.

Thank you!  The next alarm might be yours!
